Concert diaries #5: King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard – London O2 Academy Brixton

Last night I went to see a 7 piece psychedelic metal / rock band called King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard.

I’ve made posts about them on here before, I think I made a A review of their 5th album of 2017, Gumboot Soup and did A general post about the band. I’ve linked to those so you can see them if you want.

Anyway, they were absolutely amazing. It was completely sold out and it was an amazing gig. They were also a lot more improvisational than I expected, adding an extra 7 minutes to the already 10 minute long Crumbling Castle with extra lyrics and instrumentals and everything. They also had really awesome visuals, and I was surprised, because even on the songs that had music videos, they didn’t just play the music videos and the visuals were really well done.

Opening for them were Mild High Club, a band that I like quite a lot and discovered from the collaborative album they did with King Gizzard last year, Sketches Of Brunswick East. They didn’t seem like much of a live band from what we saw, but that doesn’t matter, it was still nice hearing their stuff live.

I got a really great T-Shirt as well with the crocodile wizard design from last year’s Gizzfest, which is pretty awesome:

Ranked against the other 2 live shows I’ve been to, this is probably slightly better than Green Day and on par with Father John Misty. I cannot recommend this band enough, and you should definitely check them out on tour if you can.

Rating: 10/10
