This is a good album but there are just little thing that holds it back. Future’s terrible verse on King’s dead, SZA on All The Stars, Zacari’s Redemption. I feel like most of the tracks on here have potential to be amazing, but don’t grab that and are just good. There are exceptions like Vince Staple’s Opps and The Weekend and Kendrick Lamar’s Pray For Me which are amazing tracks, but it just feels like missed potential for how unique this soundtrack is. The first (good) blockbuster with a hip hop soundtrack. It just lacks any of lyrical prowess from songs like How Much a Dollar Cost, any of the banging instrumentals from DNA and it overall fails to give many long lasting songs.
Not saying it’s bad though. I wouldn’t have bought it if I didn’t like it. All of the tracks are good, just not brilliant. Besides Redemption. And Future’s verse on King’s dead. I hate that so much. I’m not even going to show you.
My gripe is that all of the artists (except future) are amazingly talented and have made great songs so why does this album have to be just good?
The instrumentals are probably the highlight of the album, especially on Opps, King’s Dead with it’s like 10 beat switches and Pray For Me. The drums especially are really captivating on Pray For Me and King’s dead, which have this really interesting reverb and production.
Anyway, this album is really pick and mix, so I suggest you go listen to Opps, I am, Black Panther, Pray for me, and if you don’t mind a bit of trap, King’s dead. The rest of the tracks are OK, but not anything with much relistenability.
Rating: 6.5/10
You don’t like SZA’s vocals on “All the Stars?” I think she’s great and I love the song.

Maybe it’s just my personal preference.
