Weird and wonderful genres of music: Vapourwave, Extratone / splittacore and Japannoise

Credit to FrankJavCee, the YouTuber who showed me most of these genres.

Okay let’s start with one of my favourites, vapourwave. This genre is an ambient genre made by slowing down and adding effects to samples of old sax solos and it’s origin lies in the track A.H.B by S U R V I V E. The lyrics (If you decide to have lyrics) have to be about the futility of capitalism, the hubris of modern society or something like that. But the main part is the aesthetic. So for the covers, you have to use retro graphics from windows XP with something pretentious in the middle like ‘what is life?’ and space out the letters l i k e t h i s. The most prominent vapourwave artist right now is probably DJ Macintosh Plus, who recently released a new album called F l o r a l  s h o p p e. There are vapourwave mixes on YouTube, but they aren’t really vapourwave and more like ambient mixes.

The next genre I’m going to be talking about is called splittacore / extra tone, a genre which classifies any song sped up past 600 bpm, with extratone being anything over 1000 bpm. So basically nightcore on a sugar rush.

The third and final genre I’m going to be talking about it called Japannoise, a sub genre of danger noise. Japannoise was a Japanese underground music movement in the early 00’s consisting of the DJ creating their own instrument and running it through 10 or more guitar distortion pedals. It tends to sound like Tv static amplified by 10,000.

Anyway, that’s it for now. There are so many other genres I could talk about like lowercase, Daycore, Ocean grunge, Sea punk and Pirate metal, so if you want to see a part 2, get this post to 3 likes!

And for now,

Byeeeeeeeee!
